Centre

Christine Bailey, Centre, April 2004

Centre is one in a series of meditation spaces that simultaneously takes a critical, ironic stance, while attempting to create a legitimate sublime experience. Comprised of painting on canvas, synthetic hair, and cheap lighting gimmicks, Centre straddles the line between art and popular culture, cynicism and sincerity, the transcendental and the utterly stupid.

Christine Bailey received her Masters of Fine Art from the Maryland Institute College of Arts Mount Royal School of Art and her Bachelors Degree from Arizona State University. Bailey is an adjunct professor of fine art at the Corcoran College of Art. Recent awards include a Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award in Photography (2005).
